Tarek El Moussa is a successful real estate entrepreneur and the star of HGTV hit series Flip or Flop. His incredible success has been a roller coaster ride - proof that if you are determined, you will always prevail.

Tarek’s story is an inspiration to anyone who anyone who resolves to achieve  their goals. He sold real estate, not making any money at age 20, and living in the garage of his mother’s house. His luck turned when he finally sold his first mansion of many and he bought a million dollar house with his first commission.

Then the recession hit and he lost his million dollar home. His new niche became flipping distressed properties which led to a new challenge: flipping 13 homes in 10 months for a TV show. His lessons to those who want to copy his success: be open minded, don’t be afraid to approach successful people, and be determined.

For those who are curious about whether they should invest in real estate, Tarek’s story on this podcast has plenty of advice on do’s and don’ts. His rental properties provide him with cashflow for his mortgage and his Lamborghini, but he survived some harsh lessons prior to his success.

John Henry: That’s right.

Dan Lok: The minute you walk in you can feel the hustling.

John Henry: That’s right, and there’s a lot at WeWork’s, obviously, and this is … this, though, is billed as like the OG space, and there are a lot of veteran New York entrepreneurs here. There are several accelerators and several funds and stuff, and so yeah, I’m fortunate to be part of this community.
So we’re in Alley right now. Yeah, and that’s where we find ourselves.

Dan Lok: That’s awesome.

John Henry: Welcome to New York, man.

Dan Lok: Thank you, I love New York. The cold, it takes a couple of days to get used to. The minute I arrived, the airport, like wow! This is cold. I know New York, it’s cold. But this is cold!

John Henry: This is very cold.
