Do you think it’s possible to “Do what you love and the money will follow”?
It’s possible…if you love what you do, and you’re willing to do what it takes to be successful.
In most cases, people do what they love and wonder where the money is. They’re struggling financially. In business, it’s just not possible to love something and then do well at it. What’s more realistic is if you actually enjoy what you do and do more of it, you get better.
Money will follow if you do what it takes to be successful.
Here’s a simple metaphor. Let’s say you want to lose weight. You get up in the morning and go to the gym, after work you go running for a few miles, and all day you watch your diet. You don’t like any of that. You do not love it at all, especially not being able to eat the food that you want. You want the burger, the steak, and the beer.
But you get up early every morning and you show up at the gym every single day, consistently over a long period of time. You do what it takes, and guess what? You get results.
It’s no different in business. In doing what it takes, it helps if you love what you do, but you’re not doing what you love. The business world doesn’t care how you feel about your work.
The Only Thing Customers Care About
Customers only care what value you’re providing to them in exchange for their money. They only care if you understand their needs, if you can solve their problems, and if they can trust you. Then they will give you their money.
So you do what it takes, and if you love the process, that’s even better. There are things in my business that I do that I don’t love: crafting a marketing campaign, dealing with certain people, hiring a new person.
There are a lot of things within my business that I do that I do not love. But I need to do them in order to grow and sustain the business. I have to do what it takes.
The Key To Doing What It Takes
For example, there are some days when I don’t feel like making a video. I have those days, believe me. But because I committed myself to making a video every day, I show up and commit to the best of my ability. You've got to do what it takes, not do what you love, and then the money will follow. That's the formula for success. Click To Tweet
